Strolling down Wekiwa Springs.

Strolling down Wekiwa Springs.

This past Wednesday, I left the tourists behind and ventured up to Wekiwa Springs State Park in north Orange county, FL.  Unfortunately, the weather was too frigid to bathe in the springs but I scouted out the area for a future visit in the summer, in lieu of a beach day.

Being the hortiphile I am, the day was not all lost. I spotted a nature trail west of the main springs and trotted along the elevated boardwalk.  Sure, we don’t have the massive Californian redwoods in our corner of the country, but there’s something marvelous about spotting palm, oak, and pine trees coexisting in one natural setting.  Florida is just beautiful that way.

Which brings me to this realization: I’ve visited many public gardens in my short lifetime — and there’s a lot more gardens I want to visit — but as pretty as man-made landscapes can be, gardens hold no weight in comparison to the real deal mother nature offers.
